After a drunken night out with her best friend she wakes up and finds him tied to a chair in her living room, his throat slit. You will be kept guessing who the murderer is to the very end.
I really liked this book and plan to read the next two in the trilogy. I will review is some depth when I reread the book.

I much prefer taking the time to understand the speech than reading a dumbed down North American version. Because of her father’s job as an Engineer, the family followed the north sea oil boom of the seventies around Europe She left school at sixteen and did a number of poorly paid jobs, including working in a meat factory, as a bar maid, kitchen porter and cook.
Denise Mina was born in East Kilbride in Nov 18, James Thane rated it really liked it.
I recall banging through the first two books, Garnethill and Exilein a weekend, then feeling rather distraught having to wait for the third in the trilogy. Garndthill Ratings We have not received enough ratings to display an average for this book.

Will I read t A different book actually. Engrossing, hard to put down, but very disturbing in content. Maureen O’Donnell is back in Glasgow facing the darkest episode in her life: Panic-stricken, cenise sets out in pursuit of the truth and soon picks up a horrifying trail of deception and suppressed scandal. More about the Garnethill district Garnethill is a hilly district near the city centre in Glasgow, in Scotland. I honestly believe Denise Mina had some fun with this, giving us a few situations, part serious, part tongue-in-cheek.
My main problem is that she basically lies to the police all the time while she does her own investigation.
It felt as if the book was missing some words and continually failed to complete sentences. Will I read dennise other 2 in the trilogy – yes, but I’m going to take a break from them for now.
And Liam, heavy guy, dealer, public enemy number one, wee sister seeing married older guy. Initially, she would suddenly switch from timid to feisty leaving me confused as to why.
Almost immediately, I felt as though Maureen could have been someone I knew. I read so many mysteries that it takes a lot for me to rate one higher than 3 stars, however, this Scottish mystery “is a cut above the rest. I always enjoy a mystery, and xenise is a good one; I quite like that the protagonist isn’t entirely likable–she gxrnethill much more “real” that way; the book has an excellent sense of place–I’ve never been to Glasgow, but while reading this book, I almost felt like I’d walked its streets and smelled garnethipl air.
However, it is well worth the reading time, and I can highly recommend it.
Not a very warm view on the human condition. She kept asking what the beep noise on the line was. Mina came to crime fiction after a contradictory childhood. Off with a friend she goes for a few drinks, comes home blotto and passes out in her bed.
While I thought it was a good novel, it was by no means great. The plotting is clever, the characterisations deep, and Glasgow is well captured.
